Daniel Hansen

I was born in London in the cold January of 1978. I moved to Brighton in 1980 (largely because my parents did and I was only two). I've lived in Brighton ever since apart from a brief three year spell in the cultural desert of the universe... Maidstone... where I did a degree in 'Visual Communication' (art) and spend my spare time avoid beatings from the local baboons because I was wearing retro clothing.

The illustration agency 'The Organisation' (disappointingly no connection to the Mafia) picked me up at my degree show and I worked for a few years freelance. I lived the true artists life for a while penniless, living in a garret, meeting other arty types in cafes while we put the world to rights, cutting off my ear for a girl etc. Eventually I became disillusioned. I didn't enjoy commercial illustration, I wanted to do my own art, the job was financially unstable and most importantly I was lonely working at home.

So the radical move I made was to become a nurse... and now I am a third year student nurse. So if you are going to get sick, do it before May next year. The plan now is to work three long days a week as a nurse, then have four days free to become a famous writer/illustrator.
