Art
Ian Pyper

I was born in Liverpool on the north west coast of England in 1955.

I have drawn 'weird pictures' ever since I can remember.

Music is the main inspiration for my drawing and I use it as a meditative tool to produce my automatic drawings. The collages and photomontages are more considered and controlled, but the 'found' nature of the components of this work still allows for an elements of chance, poetry and the unexpected.

I prefer to work in complete creative isolation and although I have been labelled as an 'outsider', my work has also been variously described as 'surrealist', 'ethnographic', 'visionary' and 'future primitive'.

I have shown my work in galleries and publications in the US, the UK, Europe and Japan and there are also a number of web sites featuring my work.

For further information, please see 'The Spiritual Diaries of Ian Pyper' by Kate Howlett-Jones in Raw Vision Magazine #25 (www.rawvision.com).

I now live on the south coast of the UK, to indulge my passion for the sea.
