Weekend in America |
Sunset—dolphins, seabirds glide
Swiftly inches above the surface.
Over the horizon blood-orange desperation fades
Reluctantly into the Wine Dark Sea.
Homer can’t save the bewildered shipmate
Fiercely gripping the worn green rail.
Searching the changing shadows at the cliffs
Wanting safe harbor.
Violent arms exploding upward
Into the wind-charged dusk.
Where is forward where is passage?
Bellicose attitudes surround visions;
Images—appearing—fading—reappearing.
Moment moves moment, his tight hold slips
And gentle waves shift the sea-warn sailor homeward
