Scroobius Pip

Receiving comparisons to current underground artists such as Sage Francis, Saul Williams and Buck 65 as well as legends like Gil Scott Heron and Allen Ginsberg, Scroobius Pip presents a fresh and unusual sound to the UK music scene. Combining influences spanning through spoken word poetry, hip-hop, jazz and punk the music of Scroobius Pip is hard to really compare to any one artist or genre.

Scroobius Pip has just released his debut album, "No Commercial Breaks", on his own independent label, "Speech Development". On this album Scroobius Pip wanted to move away from the current trend of electronic and synthesized beats. To do this he recorded the whole album with live beats provided by Overview and layers of sax, piano and bass courtesy of Rosco Illa. This approach gives the whole album a warm and together feel and provides the perfect back drop for Scroobius Pip's thought provoking lyrics and challenging subject matters.

His live shows vary from a'ccapella, spoken word sets to a full live experience using loop pedals, recorded beats, slide shows and beat boxing. Scroobius Pip is about to embark upon the "relying on the kindness of strangers tour". This unique tour will consist of him going round the country in a 1987 space cruiser and playing to anyone that will listen. No booking agents. No pretension over venues. No restrictions. He will be combining street performances with appearances at events as varied as the Buxton Fringe festival and the "ibetcha" night (Fez Club, Reading).
